Five Guys – do I need to say more? The hyped up American burger joint has made it’s way overseas to the UK and sprung up a number of restaurants across the country. Not wishing to spend half my evening queued up outside the Covent Garden store I took the slightly more sensible approach and headed off to the Kingston branch. As soon as you walk through the doors you are transported to a bustling diner that feels like you could be in America. There are red details throughout the store, open boxes of peanuts that you can help yourself to and also bags of potatoes (standard).
The order system is fool proof, one line for payments, one line for pick ups. Not only that, they also have free refills on one of the coolest drink machines that contains every drink and flavour you could want. If you are a fussy eater like myself, the menu will be music to your ears. All the burgers come plain and you ask for which toppings you would like. The icing on the cake, or burger in this case, is that they are all free and popped onto the patty fresh when you order as opposed to going soggy inside the bun. The burger itself is a hearty fellow, two patties wrapped up inside toasted sesame bread. For what looks like a sloppy burger it doesn’t taste or feel greasy. The cheese is added perfection and now it’s time to talk fries.
Available in Five Guys Style or Cajun you get a whole lot for your buck and they are delicious. Finished off with a refillable drink and you will already be planning your next visit back. Overall this isn’t the cheapest fast food restaurant on the map, however you can taste the quality. The novelty of the brand is pretty fun and you can can be in and out within half an hour. Already I have my eye on the grilled cheese to try next and the menu also offers a range of hot dogs for those of you non burger fans. I think Shake Shack has missed a trick by only having a single central location, the availability of Five Guys is more appealing and gives you an even greater chance to pop in and try one out.
