Oh makeup – you really are so beautiful. Although the past 12 months has seen me dabble more in skincare my heart will always lie with cosmetics. The above photo may not show a lotta colour, but these have been my standout makeup bits that pretty much get used on a daily occurrence. From powders to concealers you have all your base makeup needs with a few added extras thrown in for good measure ;)
Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder – I love to contour, thanks to my chubby cheeks and round face popping on a bronzy shadow throughout the contours of my face makes such a difference. I used to be a Nars Laguna kinda girl and still am on the days I want to look a bit more sun kissed, but I have been converted to the cool tone contours. This offering from Kevyn Aucoin acts like a shadow as opposed to a bronzer and creates a natural yet defined contour.
Beauty Blender – Technically this should be added to the ‘tools’ portion of the yearly favourites however as it is reserved solely for makeup I thought I would pop it here. Requiring a bit of faff in the mornings (thanks to it needing to be damp to work best) I’ve found applying foundation and powder with this magic little sponge creates the most flawless finish. It has won me over and banished my Real Techniques Buffing Brush to the back of the cupboard.
Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara – Snooze alert. Yes I have mentioned this tiny little mascara far more then is necessary but it’s hard not to when it is that brilliant. The only thing that has stopped me from getting panda eyes throughout the day and prevents mascara falling down my face, this minuscule wand really does work wonders.
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment – Back in May when I was lucky enough to go to LA I made sure to snap up one of the much hyped Fresh Sugar Lip Balms. Now I understand why this causes so much hysteria as it is quite possibly the best lip balm that you can carry around in your handbag. It’s moisturising, non greasy and smells delicious. A firm favourite that has helped keep my lips in tip top condition.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light – BIGGEST WINNER ALERT! If I had to pick a single fav from the entire year, this would be it. This powder has transformed my makeup routine and it’s blurring and photoshop like powers meant that throughout the summer I hardly touched foundation or tinted moisturisers. I have hit pan, bought the palette and shouted my love from the roof tops.
MAC Stereo Rose – This may seem like an odd addition to the yearly favourites as this is a very old item however throughout 2013 I haven’t seemed to put it down. Something about the glow it adds to your cheeks is addictive and considering it is so highly limited edition I am getting concerned about the bump that is starting to show in the pan! If you do ever manage to get your hands on this don’t think twice before picking one up.
NARS Creamy Concealer in Custard – Although I was very much in love with the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer for many years this new concealer hit the markets and stole my heart. A hydrating concealer with coverage that doesn’t sit on the skin or cake over any blemishes I use it everyday without fail. With this tube almost being empty I will be instantly repurchasing (fingers crossed they are in stock!)
Nip+Fab Complexion Corrector Cream Eye Light – In 2013 the CC cream hit the markets and although this craze passed me by the stand out item to me was this CC Eye Fix from Nip+Fab. I am on my second pen and find this is the best under eye concealer to cover any dark circles whilst helping to lighten and brighten the area. It doesn’t break the bank and manages to be my aid after many early alarm calls.
Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder – I know, another powder, but thanks to Chanel my on the go makeup routine has been transformed. This year I have discovered a number of new formulations when it comes to powders, gone are the days of heavy and cakey formulas that sit on your skin, this blends in seamlessly to help perfect your face. This powder lives in my handbag everyday and is the best on the go touch up powder that doesn’t leave you looking like you’ve just reapplied your makeup twelve times.
