The Foundation Challenge: Part Three

foundation challenge

It’s time for another batch of foundations to go through my rigorous testing regime to see what I love/no longer like and what can be binned! This round features a couple of lighter options, some bases you might reach for during those warmer Spring days when you want a no makeup look but still a hint of coverage. Keep on reading to see what avoided the bin and check out part one and part two if you haven’t seen them yet!

Clinique Moisture Surge in Shade 2*

Back when I first tried out this Tinted Moisturiser, it was love. I found it’s lightweight formula still gave a good dose of medium coverage and I often opted for this when I had plans after work as I could trust this would stay in place. Shade 2 is slightly dark for my everyday complexion, more of a summer shade and this delivers up a glowing and healthy finish to my skin. Flash forward two years and I can no longer say this lived up to my previous raves. Either my skin has changed or the formula has just gotten a tad past it’s sell by date but either way I bit the bullet and popped this straight into the bin!

Verdict: bin!

Diorskin Nude BB Cream in Fair 002

For anyone who has been a long time reader of my blog, you’ll already know that I adore this BB Cream! From the very first day I purchased it up until every time I reach for it on a glorious summers day, it delivers up a fab healthy glow to my skin whilst doing a great job of masking over any areas of redness or pigmentation that I want to be covered. The formula is is slightly thicker compared to most tinted moisturisers however it means it can be applied with a brush, sponge or your hands. The colour match is fantastic and every time I wear it I still get complements on my complexion. If you haven’t yet tried this BB Cream, you’re missing out!

Verdict: perfect for weekends and summer

IT Cosmetics CC Cream in Fair

There has been a lotta love in the beauty community for this CC Cream. Hailed as a HG base that can be used for a day time/evening or weekend look, beauty lovers have raved over the glow enhancing formula that gives great coverage whilst remaining lightweight on the skin. I first picked up this CC Cream in the shade Fair, unfortunately the shade selections aren’t brilliant meaning this colour sits too light for my skin tone and leaves me looking washed out. Because of the problems with the shade match it meant love did not happen from first application. Instead it got shunned to the corner and forgotten about, up until a recent trip to LA where I picked up the shade Light. The two mixed together is the perfect match and now I’ve fallen head over heels for this radiant base that lasts throughout the day thanks to it’s hydrating formula.

Verdict: perfect for everyday when you get the right shade!

Illamasqua Skin Base in No 7

Now this is a blast from the past! When Illamasqua first launched their Skin Base Foundation it caused quite a buzz in the beauty community. It was one of the first ‘beauty balm’ bases from the cult Asian market before every brand launched a BB/CC base. Shade wise 7 is a good match for my skin tone and this medium coverage base blends well to give a satin finish. I did notice this tended to settled in any fine lines and didn’t give my skin that glow that I look for from my daily bases. Although I can imagine a repurchase would make me fall back in love with this foundation (I remember it being great for a night out!) I’ve got other foundations that do the same but with that boost of radiance I desire.

Verdict: bin!
