When it comes to holiday packing I 100% overestimated my ‘needs’. You see at home I have the luxury of sitting down at my desk, leisurely applying my makeup whilst experimenting with different looks and products. Although I may rock a winged liner for weekend drinks, I never seem to remember that this mantra gets instantly forgotten as soon as I step off the plane and enter holiday mode. My desire to stand awkwardly in the bathroom trying to get my face up close to the mirror is something I’m quite happy to pass up. Instead I grab those fuss free, quick to apply products to get me out the door and back enjoying the glorious weather.
Palettes – to maximise on space and minimise on fuss, holidays are the perfect time to pack those multipurpose palettes. Whether it’s that perfect shadow combination, powder palette extraordinaire or blush/bronze/highlight all in one, palettes take care of multiple eventualities within one compact and neatly housed pan. For example the Stila Eyes are the Window Palette in Soul gives natural shadow lovers a bevy of options whereas the new Tom Ford Soleil Contouring Compact not only oozes luxury, it’s got your blush, highlight and bronzing needs all taken care of.
Glow – although I love to keep my complexion looking radiant throughout the year, holidays are those special occasions where you can really bring the glow. Keeping things more subtle, the RMS Living Luminizer lifts cheekbones and helps illumines your face whereas something like the Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Instant Soft-Focus Beauty Flash Primer really pops with a soft golden tan to turnaround dull or dehydrated skin. Even the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette combines light reflective particles with their finely milled formulas to bring a glow to those holiday looks.
Although my makeup gets more paired back whilst I’m away my habit of overpacking hasn’t quite been curbed yet ;) What are your favourite makeup items to pack away when you’re heading off for some sun?
