Back in the day Eyeko were one of my favourite brands when it came to cheapy nail varnishes. They had the shade range, price and formula all down to a tee but since then they have rebranded and scrapped everything but their mascaras, eyeliners and brow gels. Initially this rebrand was met with mixed reviews. The prices were hiked alongside the brand moving away from their young and cartoonish image to instead opt for a more sophisticated vibe. The packaging received a super-swish upgrade and the company’s logo was revamped. So what do I think of the new and ‘improved’ Eyeko?
Since the rebranding has died down and everyone has become accustomed to Eyeko’s new ways, the celebratory endorsements (with it just being announced Alex Chung is going to be the face of the brand) and magazine reviews have been ramping up. I have already raved about their Brow Gel and now I am putting their mascara line to the test. First up is the most expensive of the bunch, Black Magic. This has a higher price point due to the fact it is meant to create volume whilst adding a curl all at once. This is my favourite of the bunch as it adds the most volume to my lashes, however my only pet peeve is that as you can see in the pictures it is impossible not to make a mess when applying it.
The next mascara is Fat Brush aimed at giving you a big and voluptuous lash due to it containing a fibre-enchancing Keratin formula to provide the lift. From a wand point of view I love the thicker bristles and large brush however I don’t find that this transfers fully into volume on the lashes. Personally from something called the ‘Fat Brush’ I expect things to look a little fuller. Finally is the Curvy Brush that has three clumped sections to the wand. This is meant to lift lashes to a 90 degree angle whilst giving them a bit of oomph. I’ve never had a problem in the length department but I find this gives a lovely natural finish and lift to my lashes.
Overal I personally love the rebranding Eyeko have gone through and their products back this up. Although the mascara don’t totally wow me I think for shorter and more stubborn lashes they would be brilliant. At the moment their Brow Gel is still my number of pick.
