This time on the Thursday Edit is my pick of the best cream eyeshadows. A staple in any makeup collection, cream eyeshadows are a great multi-use product that can be used as a primer, base or standalone colour. As you can see my picks mainly consist of neutral colours, that is because cream eyeshadows are some of my favourite items to use for an everyday work look. Quick to apply, easy to blend and able to last all day, these shadows are perfect to pop on in the morning when you are in a rush out the door. I have a few brands of cream eyeshadows ranging from your staple paint pots from MAC to your slightly more indulgent Illusion d’Ombre’s from Chanel and a new addition from Origins. All of these are perfect to create a quick work eye or vamp up a night look.
From the back row (left to right) there is; MAC’s Let’s Skate, OriginsGinZing Brightening Cream Eyeshadow in 03 Sugar Peach* and MAC’s Vintage Selection. Unfortunately both Let’s Skate and Vintage Selection were limited edition MAC releases from the Christmas Collection last year and Cham Pale however, if you can grab them in a blog sale I would recommend picking them up!
Let’s Skate is a frosty ice pink colour that works great all over the lid or popped on the inner corner of the eye as a highlight. The slight glitter in this eyeshadow adds a lovely lightness to the colour that catches the light. It is a very cool toned pink but I find placed all over the lid it works great at brightening your eyes.
Sugar Peach from Origins is my new favourite shadow. Worn pretty much everyday I wear this all over the lid and then (depending on the time!) I add a soft brown into the crease to create some shape and definition. I alternate between applying this with my finger and a brush, but both glide the colour onto the lid.
Vintage Selection is what I call All That Glitters but in cream form. Slightly less dense in colour this is a warmer toned pink compared to Sugar Peach and has a bit more frost to the finish. I like to use Vintage Selection as a base colour when going out to intensify the colours I use on top or lightly on the lid for a wash of colour.
My pick on the front row from left to right is; MAC’s Soft Ochre, Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombre in Illusoire and then Epatant. Ranging from the staple to the luxurious, these picks have all your bases covered!
Soft Ochre is your go to cream shadow. As a base, to prevent other eyeshadows from creasing or even just to even out the skintone on your lid, this is all your need! It’s a natural shade that neutralises any redness and works brilliantly under any colour or shade.
Illusoire is that colour that just makes me smile. It’s a deep purple colour with a touch of frost and glitter that looks utterly divine on the lid. Either all over your lid or popped along the lash line for a bit of depth this colour is just beautiful!
Epatant, similarly to Illusoire, has that Chanel frost to the colour. A deep green, but not so deep that it can’t be worn everyday, this colour works great on it’s own or blended out with a darker crease colour. Green is a funny colour that I never really know how to wear it or what to wear it with, but my favourite way to wear Epatant is just on it’s own glided over the lid.
Alongside cream eyeshadows having great staying power, colour payoff and feeling super soft, they look pretty classy in their little glass pots. They last forever (don’t think I’ve hit pan on one yet!) and as long as the lid is kept on nice and tight they don’t dry out.
